Cookies and Cream Hot Fudge Brownie Recipe

Cookies and cream hot fudge brownies

You know those recipes you see online that literally start to make you drool and then get you thinking about what plans you can cancel for the evening so you can try them out? This was one of those recipes.

I ran across it on Pinterest a few weeks back and quickly clicked through to Kevin & Amanda’s blog to read the full recipe. The pictures were stunning, the ingredients were mouth-watering and the finished product sounded like a warm gooey pile of Oreo fulled goodness.

[Sidebar: Let me explain something. With very, VERY rare exception. I don’t buy cookies from the store. At most, it happens five or six time a year. In all cases, it’s limited to Lofthouse Sugar cookies, Oreos or Pepperidge Farms Milano cookies.  Something that prompts me to BUY cookies is a rare event.]

So on my next grocery run, I picked up a bag of Oreos,  and a carton of cookies and cream ice cream. (I already had hot fudge on hand.)

And I baked them. And for a brief moment, I thought about substituting applesauce for the oil to make them healthier. Then reality kicked in and I realized I was melting ice cream to stir into a brownie recipe that also called for oreo cookies and hot fudge. Who was I kidding?

I used the oil.

I’m not going to lie to you. They looked downright sinful. A little bit gooey, a whole lot fudgey and with a beautiful center of yummy delicious Oreo happiness.

Then I tried one.

Ever built something up so much in your mind that there was simply no way it was going to live up to expectations?

Maybe that’s what happened here. Maybe not. But what I ate tasted like…

…a brownie. With an Oreo in the middle of it.

Honestly? I can think of at least three brownie recipes in my files that are fudgier, yummier and a heck of a lot less likely to increase my waist size by another inch or two.

Swing and a miss baby, swing and a miss.

Someday, I’ll post my recipe for the fudgiest, chewiest brownies I’ve ever eaten (and the mudslide pudding shots I made to go with them.) For now, I’ll share this recipe in case you think I’m full of it and want to try them yourself.

Cookies & Cream Hot Fudge Brownie Recipe

  • 1 Box of brownie mix (that makes an 8×8 pan)
  • Eggs and oil as called for on box
  • 1/2 cup of somewhat melty cookies and cream ice cream
  • 1/4 up of hot fudge topping, melted in the microwave

Stir together the brownie mix, eggs, oil, hot fudge and cookies and cream ice cream. DO NOT ADD WATER even if the box of mix calls for it. You’re basically replacing the water with the ice cream.

Pour half of it into a well greased pan. Make a layer of Oreo cookies. Pour the other half of the batter on top. Bake according to the directions on the box.

Enjoy more than I did. 🙂

We had the same outcome with S’mOreos last year. You toast a marshmallow then put it between the top of an Oreo and the filling.

    Meh?

I think there are times when oreos are perfect JUST the way they are (Although I prefer the Trader Joe’s version to Nabisco’s).

Oh but Lee…now you reminded me of a recipe for s’mores bar cookies I tried years ago. They were amazing…built like a brownie, but taste like a really chocolately s’more! I’m going to have to dig that one up and try it!
