It’s a pretty rare day that I pack bentos for all three kids at once. Every now and then, Thing One and Thing Two end up taking lunch on Friday though, which means three bentos getting tossed together. Thankfully, we had a good mix of leftovers in the fridge to pick from.

Last Friday was one of those Thing Three only bento days. Then again, that’s most Fridays. Unless it’s one of those odd weeks where “Mac n Cheese” day makes the elementary school menu, Things One and Two are always sans bento for Pizza Day.

My kids are absolutely in LOVE with Ramen noodles. They see me pulling them out of the microwave and you’d think I told them I was packing nothing but Little Debbies and rainbows in their lunches.

While I have quite a few tiered bento boxes, I rarely pack them for the kids because they simply hold way too much food. That’s not the case with my two tiniest tiered bentos. Each tier is slightly smaller than my iPhone and about an inch or so deep.

Thank heavens for freezer stock. I’m coming off a bout of insomnia and had one heck of a time managing to wake up this morning. I’m generally in the kitchen packing bentos by 8am, but it was almost 8:20 by the time I got in there today. Thankfully the kids were up and dressed and eating breakfast and it was just a matter of getting something packed for them.

I’m feeling pretty thankful that Mr W loves working from home and being around me more than he loves pretty lunches. If not, I’d have had to pack him bologna sandwiches all week to make sure he didn’t decide to rejoin the outside work world.

Here’s the interesting thing about bentos…for as small as they are, they hold a deceptively large amount of food. This is a good thing when packing bentos for adults. It can be a challenge when packing bentos for kids.

There are few things cuter than a grown man getting excited over a “cool” lunch. I had a day off of Mr W’s bento packing yesterday when high winds and low temperatures kept them from being able to work outside. But he’s back at it today with another lunch.
